48º Festival Villa-Lobos

The 48th annual Festival Villa-Lobos, organized by the Museu Villa-Lobos in Rio de Janeiro, takes places next month, from the 12th to the 28th of November.  The Festival's new website includes programming information.  It's an impressive line-up; highlights include:
  • the jazz group Rabo de Lagartixa
  • Quarteto Radamés Gnattali
  • the choros group Os Matutos
  • the great Quinteto Villa-Lobos
  • a showing of Zelito Viana's film Villa-Lobos, uma vida de Paixão
  • Joel Nascimento
  • Wagner Tiso and the group Uakti
  • and many, many others

A new resource for Classical Music from Latin America

I was pleased to come across the Concierto.org website from the NPR station WDAV.  Read this inaugural post from Ken Keuffel on the Concierto blog - it lays out the rationale for the site, which is in its pilot phase.  I look forward to the development of what looks like a valuable new web resource.

By the way, I'm a big fan of Alondra de la Parra and her recent Sony CD Mi Alma Mexicana/My Mexican Soul - I strongly recommend it!

Trio for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon on the Road

An interesting programme of music for Oboe, Clarinet, & Bassoon, including Villa-Lobos's excellent work from 1921, on the road in Brazil during the last week in October.  Thanks, once more, to Carlos Eduardo Amaral for this information.
